SUPPORT AFSCME IN CONTRACT TALKS
From AFSCME (JANUARY 30, 2008)
UC TELLS AFSCME WORKERS THEY HAVE THE MONEY, BUT ITS "IRRESPONSIBLE" TO SPEND IT ON THEM:
• At the bargaining table, management told us that they have the
ability to pay our wage proposal, but that it would be "irresponsible"
to spend it on frontline workers' wages.
• We think it is irresponsible for UC to be unable to recruit and
retain the best qualified staff for our patients and students because
of the below standard working conditions.
• We deserve to be treated like other hospital and community college workers who already have steps at market rates, benefits protections, call pay, overtime pay after shift, good union-represented jobs, and the many other things we have demanded for our new contract.
• UC is not taking us seriously—let's show them that we are fighting
to make 2008 a year of justice for our patients, students, and our
families!
